Anti-scratch bumpers lift the chain away from wheels. View Bigger Superior Engineering and Design Thule snow chains are hand-created in Italy and are constructed of durable, hardened manganese nickel alloy steel. They feature dual-sided D-shaped links that offer exceptional traction and extend the life of the item. These snow chains use a patented self-centering and auto-tensioning method which adjusts itself for a ideal fit. Once the chains are wrapped about the tire, the installation process is completed when the automobile is set in motion. As the wheels turn, the self-centering and auto-tensioning method activates and the chain tightens about the tire. This eliminates the desire to exit your car and brave the components to re-adjust snow chains. For much easier installation in the dark or in the course of the day, all attachment points on the chains are color coded. Additionally, every single set of Thule tire chains comes with a tough case, installation mat, pair of gloves, and spare links.
Auto-tensioning systemensures a fantastic fit. View Bigger Thule CG-9 - Ideal for Sub-Compact Vehicles Although providing the same patented self-tensioning and micro-regulation remedy as other Thule snow chains, the Thule CG-9 is constructed with smaller sized 9mm D-link chain. I have used these chains for 2 seasons and have driven hundreds of miles on them. I love them and will never use another chain. They are quick and easy to attach. I am frequently in and out of the "chain-up area" before other drivers have even straightened out their chains. The low profile, 9mm chain links make for comfortable driving even at higher speeds.
I use them on a 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback. The owner's manual for this car says to never use chains or cables because they may interfere with the anti-lock brakes and steering mechanisms. This is apparently typical for smaller sports cars. But the state police won't always let me up the pass without chains installed, despite AWD and all-weather tires. I took the chains and the car to the Subaru dealership, had them put the car on a lift and install the chains. The dealership said they were fine and would not interfere with sensitive parts. I have been using these chains without issue, and after 2 seasons they show minimal wear. I fully expect to use them for 2 more seasons. I have not experienced the cable problem another reviewer had.
These chains work great in the snow. I drove about 20 miles in a Northern Vermont snow squall using these chains. Unfortunately, I noticed, when I was taking them off, that the cable that holds the chains on the side of the tire was broken after using them this one time. I will be contacting Thule ASAP to discuss warranty coverage. They run about 165 - 170 bucks a pair.
